Propylene glycol is a colorless, tasteless, odorless viscous liquid with a chemical formula of C3H8O2. It is a polyol with water absorption and stability and low toxicity.
The melting point of propylene glycol is -60℃, the boiling point is 187℃, and the density is 1.036 g/cm³. It is easily soluble in water, acetone, ethyl acetate and chloroform, and can be dissolved in many essential oils, but it is not miscible with petroleum ether, paraffin and grease. Propylene glycol is relatively stable to heat and light, especially at low temperatures.
